Hello everyone!
First of all, thank you for subscribing to the Wikitroid-l mailing list.
I hope that this mailing list will be useful to everyone as a good
alternate means of communication!
Remember, anyone can start any discussion on Wikitroid-l, as long as
it's about something related to Wikitroid or Metroid. To start a
thread, just send your email to Wikitroid-l at fastlizard4.org and remember
to give your email a descriptive subject line. To reply to a thread,
just hit "Reply" to one of the thread's emails, and make sure that
Wikitroid-l is set in the To: field (it should be by default)!
So, I want to start the first topic on the mailing list talking about
how we can make Wikitroid more friendly to new contributors. Currently,
one of our most-relied on methods for getting basic information about
the wiki to new users is through the Welcome message left on the user
talk pages of new users; however, MarioGalaxy2433g5 did an informal poll
in the subject, and, somewhat unsurprisingly, not many people actually
click the links in the welcome message (or at least clicked all of
them):
http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:MarioGalaxy2433g5/Are_people_actually_clicking_the_links
(there aren't many responses, and I know some of them are from you guys
subscribed to the list, but the questions are useful).
Now, we've gone around this several times before on wiki, but I don't
think we've directly approached the problem. Is there anything you
would change to make the wiki more friendly for new contributors?
Remember to speak your mind, as that will be the most helpful!
