Hello everyone,

Due to circumstances I am not at liberty to discuss, Rav3n is no longer involved with the operation of Rav3nZNC as a LizardNet service and, as it is a LizardNet service, responsibility has fallen to me to determine its future. After careful consideration and weighing the available options, I have made the difficult decision to shut down Rav3nZNC.

I understand that this will be rather inconvenient for those of you who use it, and I would like to express my sincerest apologies for this. Though, as noted above, I am not at liberty to go into the specifics for how this situation came to be, some of the reasons that went into the decision to shut down Rav3nZNC include the fact that my infrastructure is not well-suited to a highly multi-user system like ZNC, given that I only have a single IP address for each one of my servers. In addition, I would like to give Rav3n the opportunity to offer Rav3nZNC as an independent service from LizardNet, and shutting down the current iteration of Rav3nZNC is the best way to achieve that.

Again, I realize that this will be a major inconvenience to everyone who uses it, and to that end, I am giving everyone one month to make alternative arrangements and transfer their IRC connections elsewhere. Rav3nZNC as a LizardNet service is scheduled to be permanently shut down on Tuesday 1 November 2016 at 00:00 UTC. No new accounts will be created going forward. I'm afraid that this is a final decision, and the shutdown will be occurring on or around this time.

Rav3n may or may not offer a new Rav3nZNC service in the future as a completely separate entity from LizardNet. I will have no involvement with such a future Rav3nZNC iteration, nor will it be hosted on my infrastructure, so I cannot confirm or deny that it is planned or that it exists. My advice, if you're interested, would be to contact Rav3n directly if possible. He can be found on the OnlineGamesNet IRC network (irc.onlinegamesnet.net) in the channel #Rav3nZNC.

Beyond a future non-LizardNet Rav3nZNC service, a list of alternatives you may wish to consider in light of LizardNet Rav3nZNC shutting down can be found on ZNC's wiki here. In addition, IRCCloud, though not using ZNC, is a well-trusted and popular service, though one has to pay a per-month fee to unlock the most useful features.

If you have any questions for me or would like assistance retrieving your data from Rav3nZNC (e.g., if you'd like a copy of your user configuration and/or a dump of your saved logs), please contact me on IRC (where I usually use the nickname "FastLizard4") or by email at rav3nznc [at] fastlizard4 [dot] org.

Again, my deepest apologies for the inconvenience this will cause. It's never my intention to make peoples' lives more difficult, however, all things considered I do believe this is the best path going forward. Again, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, and thank you for using LizardNet and Rav3nZNC.

Sincerely,
Andrew "FastLizard4" Adams
