Minecraft servers/s2/Spleef
Spleef (see also the Minecraft Wiki here) is a game for two or more players. The object of the game is to destroy the blocks underneath the other players' feet, causing them to fall out of the arena and thus lose the game. The last player standing in the arena is the winner.
This page gives information about the fully-automated Spleef arenas on the Minecraft server s2, powered by DolphinSpleef (a plugin for CraftBukkit).
Although Spleef can, of course, be played anywhere by anyone willing to put the time into setting up the arena and monitoring the game, there are currently two fully-automated self-resetting arenas (see the list below).

Instructions for playing Spleef in an automated Spleef Arena
The game may be joined from anywhere in the world, and you will automatically be teleported to the warm-up area (aka Ready Room). For convenience, a Fast Travel Station is located near each arena (see the arena list below for more specifics) to allow you to return to the Fast Travel Hub and from there wherever you came from.
- To join the spleef game (assuming that a game is not in progress at the arena you wish to join), type this command into Minecraft (again, from anywhere in the world):
/spleef join id
where id is the arena number you wish to join (see list of arenas below)- If a game is not currently in progress, you will be teleported to the Ready Room for the arena you selected. If you get a message like "This arena is disabled", try waiting a few minutes for the arena to be automatically reenabled (usually happens if the server has performed an automated restart recently)
- Once all players who wish to join have joined, punch the green Block of Emerald in the Ready Room to signal that you are ready to play. The game automatically begins when all players have signalled ready in this manner.
- You will be teleported to the arena. Play Spleef! During the game, you may not issue any commands and all Spleef blocks are instantly broken when punched (and you may not break any other blocks with any tools other than the Spleef blocks). Likewise, you do not need to carry any special tools into the arena with you, not even a pickaxe!
- The game ends when there is only one player left standing! Losers are automatically teleported to the spectator area, and the winner will as well. The winner may even win a prize (unique to each arena)!
- If you wish to leave a game early (abandon the game), run the command
/spleef leave
. Note that this will be counted as a loss. - The spleef arena resets itself after each game. It is immediately ready to support a new game (which can be initiated by simply running the
/spleef join id
command again).
- If you wish to leave a game early (abandon the game), run the command
If you only wish to spectate on games, not join them, the simplest way to get to any arena is with the help of the Fast Travel Network. Alternatively, for a quicker and more direct transport (assuming that there is not currently a game in progress), simply join the game (/spleef join id
) then immediately leave it (/spleef leave
) without signalling ready by punching the Ready Block.

Building Your Own Arena
Anyone is welcome to build their own arena, and once built you can simply poke FastLizard4 to be made automated. However, for this to be done, the following requirements must be observed:
- Between the final spleef layer and the floor of the arena, there must be an area of air at least two blocks in height for the player to fall through so the plugin will register a loss
- There must be a spectation area where losers will be automatically teleported and a "staging area" that players will be sent to when they initially join the game. The spectation area should obviously be accessible by non-players, but the staging area should not be (i.e., they must be teleported there by the plugin, and that's the only way to get there). Optionally, build an area where the winner will be teleported (by default, they are sent to the same place losers are).
- The spleefing floor should not be made out of the same materials as the arena itself
- The spleefing floor can be as thick as you want it to be, and air gaps of any size are allowed (all damage is disabled in arenas, including fall damage)
- You must design and create the spleefing floor before submitting it for plugin configuration; the plugin saves the floor layout and uses that as the template for regeneration
- There must be area near the arena for a Fast Travel station to be constructed
- Lighting is not a concern; all mob spawning is disabled in the arena and the general vicinity
- When submitting the spleefing arena for plugin configuration, you must include the following
- The coordinates of the arena itself (x, y, and z)
- Coordinates of where you want joining players to be teleported to (the staging area), where losers are teleported to, and (if not the same location as the losers) where the winners are teleported to
- A list of blocks that were used in the spleef floor (block IDs only; data values are irrelevant)
- Your desired reward - if any - for winning a Spleef match
- If you have a preference, where you want the Fast Travel station to be built
Note that as part of the Spleef arena configuration process, informational signs will be added by FastLizard4 around the arena.
